01/01: Full house

Today I will tell you about another hand type called full house. It is also known as a full boat. In a full house, there will be three matching cards of one rank and two matching cards of another rank. So, full house have two conditions:
1. Having three matching cards of one rank and
2. Having two matching cards of other rank.

For example, a hand such as 3♣ 3♠ 3♦ 6♣ 6♥, which contains three matching cards of one rank, and two matching cards of another rank.

During the play between two full houses, the one with the higher ranking three cards wins. I am explaining it with an example. Let a hand with 7♠ 7♥ 7♦ 4♠ 4♣ (hand 1) and other hand with 6♠ 6♥ 6♦ A♠ A♣ (hand 2). In hand 1 the rank of 3 matching cards is 7 and in hand 2 the rank of 3 matching card is 6. As 7 is higher rank then 6, so hand 1 will be winner.

There is a system to call a full house. Full houses are described as "Three full of Pair" or occasionally "Three over Pair". For example Q♣ Q♦ Q♠ 9♥ 9♣ could be described as "Queens over nines", "Queens full of nines", or simply "Queens full".

In case of probability, there are 3,744 possible full houses; so probability of being dealt one in a five-card hand is 0.14%.

In my previous posts I was telling you about different hand category of Let It Ride. Though the description of few hand category still remaining, today I am going to describe you the system of Let It Ride play, in other word how to play Let It Ride.

Remember that, it is a casino card game. Before start playing each player will place three equal bets in three spaces labeled (1),(2) and ($). Some casinos offer an optional $1 side bet. This side bet offers an additional payout if the player's first three cards contains a winning hand. The house edge on this bet is generally over 13%, making it one of the worst bets for a player in a casino. A more common $1 side bet is against a fixed payout scheduling typically starting with two pair (typically a $4 payout, but really only 3:1 since the original dollar is collected before the hand is dealt) or three of a kind (typically a $8 payout).

Then the time for deal. Each player receives three face down cards. The dealer deals two community cards face down.

Let It Ride compares the player's poker hand with a payout chart, rather than comparing it with the other players' hands or the dealer's hand. The player's hand consists of the player's three cards and the dealer's two cards. Each player is required to keep the three cards in full view of the dealer at all times. Winners are paid according to the payout schedule (pair of 10's or better, two pair, etc.).

After looking at his three cards, each player has the option of pulling back the first bet or leaving the wager there. To leave the bet live is to "let it ride".

The dealer then exposes one community card. The players then each have the option of pulling back the second bet or letting it ride.(they can't add their first bet back on if they get a better hand, however.) After each player decides whether to pull back the second bet, the cards are placed face down on the designated area of the layout and may not be touched again.

The dealer then turns up the second community card and in a counterclockwise direction, turns the three cards of each player face up.

All losing wagers are then collected, and then all winning hands are paid by the dealer according to the payout schedule.

Regardless of the decision made concerning the first or second bets, a player may not take back the third bet.

Players are not allowed to show their hands to the other players, as this gives them an advantage by increasing their chances of knowing what cards the dealer is likely to turn up. In many casinos this is often not enforced at all or very sparingly. At a full table, it is sometimes difficult not to see the cards of a player on either side of you.
Today I will discuss about another Hand category called Four of a kind. It is also known as quads. This type of hand contain four cards of one rank and an unmatched card of another rank. For example 9♣ 9♠ 9♦ 9♥ J♥, 7♣ 7♠ 7♦ 7♥ J♥, 7♣ 7♠ 7♦ 7♥ 10♣ etc where contains four cards of one rank, and an unmatched card of another rank, so it is a "four of a kind" hand type.

In Let It Ride, Quads with higher ranking cards defeat lower ranking ones. There are 624 possible hands including four of a kind; the probability of being dealt one in a five-card deal is only about 0.024%. So, if you don't lucky enough, you don't expect a four of a kind.
In my last post I told that in next few posts I will discuss about different hand types of let it ride. Today I am trying to discuss about straight flush hand type and royal flush hand type.

A straight flush is a hand that contains five cards in sequence, all of the same suit. So, remember that there are 2 conditions for straight flush. They are:
1. All 5 cards must be in sequence and
2. All 5 cards will be of the same suit.

For example Q♣ J♣ 10♣ 9♣ 8♣, 10♥ 9♥ 8♥ 7♥ 6♥, 10♦ J♦ Q♦ K♦ A♦ etc.

In the game, Straight flush will win against all the hand type. But in case of two such hands that are straight flush, hands compared by their card that is ranked highest. Remember that, like many other card game, in let it ride, suits have no relative value. So, two identical straight flushes will be tie. Fro example, 10♣ 9♣ 8♣ 7♣ 6♣ ties with 10♥ 9♥ 8♥ 7♥ 6♥.

Royal Flush
Royal Flush is also a type of Straight flush. In this straight flush all 5 card are royal card. Cards ranges from 10 to A when makes a Straight flush, is called Royal flash.

For example 10♦ J♦ Q♦ K♦ A♦, 10♣ J♣ Q♣ K♣ A♣ etc

Now let us go for some probability calculation. Don't be afraid about mathematics, I am going to make a simple probability calculation. There are 40 possible straight flushes, including the four royal flushes. The probability of being dealt one in a five-card deal is about 0.0015%. I made the percentage bold as you can understand how difficult to get a straight flush. You may win only 41 times if you play about 2.6 lac times!!!
Before I start describe the playing rules and system of Let It Ride, we should know about different Hand categories and payouts. Today I will tell you only about different hand categories and what is the payout against that categories.

The highest hand category is Royal flush, where payout is very high and it is 1,000 to 1. Second highest hand category is Straight flush. Payout of this type hand category is much lower than royal flush. It is only 200 to 1. But I think, it is still very high rate of payment. Can you imagine you r getting paid 200 times much then your invest?

Third highest hand category is Four of a kind and payout for this hand category is 50 to 1. Next hand categories payments are not too high. They are ranging between 1 to 1 and 11 to 1. Payment for Full house is 11 to 1. In case of Flush, the payment is 8 to 1 and for Straight, it is 5 to 1. The payouts for Three of a kind, Two pair and Pair of 10's or better are 3 to 1, 2 to 1 and 1 to 1 respectively.

In my next post, I will discuss about what is the meaning of different types of hand categories and how they are formed.

When I told my friends that I am going to make a blog about Let It Ride, I found that most of them don't know Let It Ride is a Card Game. One of my friend thought I am going to create a movie blog as he knows about the comedy film Let It Ride. My other friend thought it will be a music blog as he knew about the "Let It Ride" song by Ryan Adams and The Cardinals. At last I told them, I am not going to create any musical blog or any movie blog, my blog is about a Card Game, which is mainly played in casino.

In this blog I will discuss about only the casino game Let It Ride, which is a variation of poker. Let It Ride played against the casino rather than against the other players. The game's relatively slow pace and the chance to pull back two of the three bets has made Let It Ride popular with older players and table game neophytes.

In my later posts I will discuss about different things about this game.
